Louise Monaghan

Louise Monaghan is an award-winning playwright who is currently Playwright-on-Attachment at the Finborough Theatre. She won the Papatango New Writing Festival for her play PACK, which opened to rave reviews at the Finborough Theatre. Her play FIFTY PAIRS OF UNWORN SHOES received a staged reading as part of the Vibrant Festival at the Finborough, directed by Alex Marker. Louise also recently worked on FIELDS UNSOWN, a play about Morden Hall Park in Surrey during the First World War, which was performed at Morden Hall Park.

Louise’s play MY SPACE premiered at the 24:7 Festival in Manchester, and her play TOUCHED BY TOM DALEY was included within the Descent Programme Now We are Three: The Best of Descent, at the Southwark Playhouse.  She is a past winner of the Judges Award Bruntwood Prize for her play SHADOWPLAY in 2011 and was a finalist for both The London Fringe Festival’s Theatre Writing Award 2010 and Little Brother Productions Big Opportunity 2011 with her play AURORA.

In addition to her extensive theatre work, her BBC Radio credits include ALONE IN THE GARDEN WITH YOU, directed and produced by Jessica Dromgoole and THE MAN INSIDE THE RADIO IS MY DAD, both of which were broadcast on BBC Radio 4. She has recently been commissioned to write a new radio play for BBC Radio 4; SLIPPING THROUGH TIME.

Louise participated in the Writing Television Drama course run by New Writing South in February 2014. She is currently working on several new television ideas.

“Louise Monaghan's play knocks spots off much of the new writing I have seen this year, and manages to say a lot about the state of the nation in a compressed 90 minutes” Michael Billington, The Guardian ****

“Monaghan’s writing is most praiseworthy. She takes a topic area that has reached near saturation point and presents it in a quiet yet affecting manner….Pack is certainly deserving of its winning title in the Papatango competition, and this fantastic production of the play will hopefully ensure Monaghan a future place on the London stage.” What’s On Stage ****
